Scrapy Land Guest Designer--Anything Goes

Hello friends! It's time for a new challenge at Scrapy Land--Anything Goes plus use any of the 40 dies that Scrapy Land carries in their well stocked shop. Here is my card I made for today's challenge--I call it "Pretend It's a Plan".

Dies used that Scrapy Land sells:

I prepared a woodgrain background panel using glue, Distress ink re-inker, paint, and ink pads. Trust me, this looks better in real life!

Next, I cut two panels using the Mixed Media die--one on a neutral card stock (I cut two areas on this) and one on black, so I could make a shadow effect. When I cut the black one, my multi-purpose platform decided to crack and buckle, so that was the end of die cutting any more Thinlits!! You can see that the cutting was not complete on the black layer! I decided to use the cut anyway and pretend it was a plan!

I covered the neutral panel in Distress Crazing Medium and let dry. I blended Distress Crayons in neutral colors to show off the texture. When all that dried medium got stuck around the delicate cuts, I decided my card would be ultra grungy (pretend it's a plan!) You can see I shifted the black layer to appear as a shadow. That really WAS the plan!

I stamped simply with Archival ink and numbers image from Tim Holtz The Impossible set.

I added an appropriate Remnant Rub and part of a Chit Chat phrase (distressed, of course!)

At the center of my grungy card I used the detailed gears from the Deluxe Gear set and Mini Gears from Memory Box. I love the tiny details on these die cuts, and was lucky enough to have cut these before my cutting apparatus went kapooie!  Those tiny gears add so much fun to my design! I backed the larger gears with a black "shadow" so they would show up better.

I used a variety of DecoArt and Distress paints, and embossing powders to give my gears an aged, rusty copper look.

I used Sizzix Weathered Clock hands for my stamped and crackled clock face. The clock stamp is from Close to My Heart and the cracks are compliments of DecoArt Crackle Medium.

I hope you like my totally unexpected steampunk style card!

Thank you for stopping in today and for all your amazing comments! They mean so much to me!
Hugs and Blessings!
Sara Emily

  9. Oh, Sara! I arrived at your blog at sighed contentedly, feeling just like I had taken a walk up the hill, through the tiny open area where the birds and wildlife come to drink, and then arriving at my husband's workshop. The colors, textures, and components, all brought to mind that pleasant little walk I make a few times a day to see what's happening at the barn/workshop.

And for the wood background, I had to laugh when you promised it looked better in person, because that is one of my favorite parts! I can only think how much MORE I would fall in love with this creation if I had seen it in person LOL

The crackled, rusted appearance of the clock is remindful of the 30 year old clock in his workshop. He can make anything work - such a fix-it person he is, so all the gears reminded me of the decades he has spent keeping things working. So even tho your artwork had nothing to do with me, boy-oh-boy, I completely identified with it! Gorgeousness! BTW, the black "shadow" of your background die cut is incredible! I am working on a project using background dies, and it looks nothing like yours!

Thanks for teaching me so much today. I hope to venture into some of the products you have introduced me to.
    hugs,

  13. Oh my good grief, this is spectac-fabulo-mazing!! Wow, Sara Emily...you have me making up words to describe this!! Just so you know, I've been at your blog for ten minutes but I just couldn't drag my eyes away from the pictures!! First of all, I can't imagine the background looking any more amazing in person!! I love, love it!! The rusted gears are perfect!! And wowzers, that clock is stunning!! I agree with Samra...my cracks never look this fabulous!! I just adore this my friend!! Your plan turned out perfectly ;)

And on a coincidental note...I broke my Big Shot the other day, too!! I heard a loud snap and it wouldn't roll anymore :( The bottom roller completely broke from the base. I shopped around and found the best price at Walmart online...better than I could get at Hobby Lobby with a coupon, plus free shipping. I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday my friend!! Big hugs :)
